2019 Nearing Year End and Moochdocking!

Since the second week in November, 2019 we have just bounced around wherever we were needed.

After my Dad died, I spent a week with my Mom and then we were back in Monroe, NC to spend Thanksgiving with the kids. We were then off to see my husband’s Aunt and Uncle and family in Charleston, SC and then we were off to Texas for Christmas! Whew!

This trek looks simple enough as none of these places are more than 3-4 hours apart, but we made them a couple of times.

Once we returned to the Carolina’s we took care of RV maintenance, Doctor’s appt.’s, and spending time with family and friends over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The next segment of the trip back west was going to Goose Creek, SC to see family. This was a pretty decent leg of the trip. It’s always a decent trip when you are as familiar with the area as we are.

The thing about driveway surfing or Moochdocking (as some say)… is you’re always worried if your rig will fit in the space provided. Now, we were here last year but we were in a 30 ft. 5th Wheel…. this year we’re in a 40 ft. Motorcoach. My cousin-in-law was saying we had 49 feet of driveway to work with at his parents house. Hmmm… I still had my doubts, BUT LOOK…. we fit!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable!!

The nice thing about driveway surfing at my Uncle-In-Law’s and son’s house is they both have a separate 30 amp circuit that we plug into. In the winter we can get by nicely because we’re not running either A/C’s. We’re a 50 amp unit but that doesn’t really mean we need 50 amp service. We can get by with 30 amp as long as we’re only running one A/C or no A/C. It is more than gracious that they don’t mind us in the driveway! Thank You!!

We had planned on going the more direct route…. through Atlanta, Birmingham, AL, Jackson, MS and then down to Livingston, TX etc. but when we got up that morning – we kinda looked at each other and said, “Naaa, we’re not dealing with Atlanta today – so we took a very familiar route, the more southern route!

This leg of our cross-country trip was strictly staying at Rest Areas, which wasn’t bad. TIP: Pay attention on this route to the Rest Area signs and Welcome Center signs – most, if not all, will let you know if there is a free dump station. You know, the little sign above the big sign with the pull-behind with the arrow pointing down! Some are marked with No Overnight Parking. We found it to be no big deal…. walk in, ask, and it’s all good. As one place told us – just don’t be here in February! LOL

We made it to Livingston, TX and settled in for a couple of days to take care of some planning and prescriptions that I needed. I’ll talk about that in a later post – How I manage a life-long disease.

In the meantime… let’s get onto Loyd Park and Christmas!
