Golden Nugget Casino – Biloxi – Free Camping? Pt 1

I have to say we were a bit skeptical – but our plans to stay in the Florida area (close to that rest area in the last post) got thwarted as the area we were going to was way back in the woods, on a dirt road, and the forecast was calling for a lot of rain. The last thing we wanted to do was get ourselves successfully stuck in the woods so we stayed on pavement and moved on to Biloxi.

Now…. we’d heard a lot and read a lot about “camping/boondocking” for free at the Golden Nugget Casino Biloxi. I was curious and very skeptical. I wondered if it was for real or sketchy. There was no way to know until we got there.

The trip to Biloxi through the panhandle of Florida – we started seeing the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, October 10, 2018. Trees for miles and miles and more miles just snapped off. Looks like the state is trying hard to clean up but according to reports the tree farmers in the area are suffering great set-backs as the majority of the pines simply snapped under the winds of Hurricane Michael.

We zipped on through Alabama and welcomed the Mississippi state sign.

We had decided when we left Charleston, SC to take I-10 west because it’s the most southern route and it was dead winter! We were looking for warmer and drier conditions but look at the picture above. Yep, water, rain, and then the winds show up later.

But, before we talk about that – let’s get to the Golden Nugget Casino Biloxi and see what this is all about!

After 6 or 7 hours on the road – we arrive. That sketchy looking shadow in the photo is actually Trapper. I took this long after we got here. (Yes Mom, it’s really Trapper, I’m safe!). 🙂

In the next blog post I’m going to talk more about this overnight camping spot, in detail. It’s quite interesting. There are locals and we talked to the police.
