The People of Livingston, TX

With the truck being towed away this morning, Trapper had to go to the campground office and explain we were literally stuck in Spot 44. The campground host said, “No problem, we’ll just move some reservations around and you can stay in that spot,” which was kind of funny because we couldn’t move if we wanted to! I hope the folks that got moved around weren’t to upset at not getting Spot 44 – it was a super good spot!

The best news came later in the day when the dealership called. The service manager said all the truck needed was resetting the codes and more transmission fluid!

Yes! It was only $160 total – and they came and got Trapper so he could get the truck back!

The next day Trapper was working on the fuel filter and broke a little plastic part. Well, that meant the truck was unusable again. He call Reilly’s, explained what part he needed, and explained the situation (we’re stuck at a campground.) The guy on the phone said, “No problem, we’ll run it out to you.” Can you believe that? They delivered a $3 part to us and didn’t charge a delivery fee.

We also learned that in TX you must have a vehicle inspection and if you drive a dually – by TX state law you must have mudflaps on it. Ok, we have to find a place to do that. Turns out there was an inspection station about 2 miles from the campground that would install the mudflaps, inspect the truck and camper (yep, you gotta have a trailer inspection too). The guy at the garage was pretty cool and only charged us for the inspections and the actual price of the mudflaps.

We had extended our stay in Livingston to two weeks and in those two weeks we experienced so many random acts of kindness. I’ve been in lots of cities and towns in my life and I think the people of Livingston rate No. 1 in kindness to strangers! Thanks Livingston!!
