Another bucket list item for me! Like I said earlier, I fell in love with Longhorn cattle ten years ago when I first laid eyes on them! I never dreamed I’d ever get this close to one!
The Stockyard Exchange is a very enchanting place. Or so I think. Maybe it was just my excitement to being so close to these monstrous animals and seeing this place for myself.
The cattle drive was at 4:30 p.m. There was a guide standing in the middle of the street explaining the history of the place and what we were going to see. Very interesting talk. And then came the Longhorns! Oh my gosh! Look at the span of those horns!
The cattle drive lasted about 30-40 minutes and then we had a couple of hours to kill until the Rodeo started. The Rodeo is held on Friday and Saturday nights and starts at 8 p.m. (I’m not sure if the rodeo we attended is held ongoing weekly or not. It could have been leading up to semi-finals or something. Check out this link (Fort Worth Stockyards) for more details on what to do and where to stay.)
We watched some of the horse trailers and convoys coming in, the cowboys getting ready, the clowns getting set-up and just toured around the place. There’s plenty of shopping and eating joints.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 6-7 hours at The Stockyards! We had an awesome time, ate a wonderful burger, and hung out at the Rodeo!
Enjoy the pictures!
Next stop was Magnolia Beach, TX. Free camping on the Matagorda Bay.
It was time for us to stop being tourists and get back to real life.
