MAJOR Truck Issues…. RV Life For Real!

This post is upsetting to our pocketbook and upsetting to us! Very upsetting! The most upsetting part is Trapper and our mechanic back home did/replaced/fixed/upgraded/etc everything they could. We thought we were good to go for awhile. We have a 2008 4-Door Dually Chevy 3500 HD…. it should be able to pull anything, right? Well, let’s see….

The truck started acting stupid in San Pedro Recreational Area in TX – a couple months ago. It just lost power, period. (San Pedro Recreational Area) Well stay tuned, it wasn’t just a sensor!

Ok, so you saw the spooky Congress, AZ campsite with the graveyard spirit vistors – you really can’t make this stuff up guys… it’s life out here, but we decided to move to some Arizona State Trust Land just outside Wickenburg, AZ.

The place is great. It costs us a $21/yearly permit with a 14-day limit per year, but there are locals here too. The limit isn’t enforced., evidently. Who knows?

Our truck, in the mean time, is gagging and coughing and wouldn’t go anywhere. So, Trapper got online and found Desert Diesel (Desert Diesel). A local place with awesome reviews who could help us out.

Desert Diesel picked us up and hauled us away – to their shop for some major diagnostics!

This is the 3rd time I’ve seen our truck in this position in 5 months! I don’t like it! Just sayin’

Three days and $$$$ later, it was the EGR system that had failed. Oh my gosh! But, honestly, we’d expected this, but we weren’t expecting it this year! This whole pollution control stuff put on diesels (after ’08 or so) seems to be a failed a system.

In the meantime, we rented a car from Jones Ford in Wickenburg, AZ and they actually had someone who knew where we were! They came and got us and took us to our rental car! How awesome is that! When you feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere and someone actually knows where you are, and the relief you feel! That feeling is amazing!

Our Truck is our lifeline. It pulls our home… it’s our daily go- to vehicle. It was my daily driver for 18 months before we hit the road. I’m glad it didn’t leave me stranded at midnight coming home from work when we were in SC nor did it leave us in countless places between SC and AZ! Blessings were bestowed on us, no doubt!
