Melton Hill Dam Campground, Lenoir City, TN

The campground is located about 10 miles from the west side of Knoxville, TN. Very convenient if you need some extended time in Knoxville. The campground is part of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) but is managed by Recreation Resource Management. Here’s a direct link if you’re interested. https://camprrm.com/parks/melton-hill-dam-campground/

Regular price is $27 per night with water/electric and dump station on side. With Trapper’s Senior Access Pass we paid $20. I originally reserved 10 nights which ended up getting extended – which I’ll show you later why we did that.

Our first spot was #39. A little tricky to get into as you can see in the picture. But we were right next to one set of the camp hosts and quickly chatted it up with them about camp host positions. We’re both anxious to Camp Host! And ultimately we applied with Resource Recreation Management.

Site #39

The next 10 days were spent with Trapper being sick (he got sick as soon as we arrived in Knoxville) and me spending time with my dad in rehab and my mom.

I was able to spend some quality time with both parents; planted some flowers for my mom, spent a lot of “talking time” with my dad while we ate watermelon and potato chips! We both love those two food groups! 🙂

We ran into some more mechanical issues as soon as we got back east and honestly guys – I’m tired of issues. The entire month of April were issues with the truck and now this happens….

Although we had pulled this RV across the country and back, as we were pulling in here… Trapper was backing in – and all of a sudden I see the passenger side wheels start bumping together! Not good! I’m hand signaling and yelling “Stop! Stop! Stop!”

Ultimately the U bracket on the frame had almost completely snapped-in-two which was allowing the wheels to touch. We put the word out to the campground host that we needed a mobile welder. Luckily, one of our fellow RV’ers son (who worked out of Knoxville) was just that and he came out a couple days later. Whew! Thank goodness! We had the entire frame checked out, fixed and reinforced!

Now for the best part of Melton Hill Dam Campground…. Site 56 & 57! When I asked in the office about availability – they laughed! But, as luck would have it – site 57 was going to be open for 4 days at the end of our 10 day reservation window. I grabbed it! Check this spot out!

Site 57 – the lake is across the street – gorgeous!
Parking lot for day use is across the street from #57 but no biggie for us – we like people watching!
Beach area!

If you decide to camp here remember this is a tiered campground. Some sites are tricky but the descriptions on line and pictures are pretty accurate.

Our 4-5 day trip back from Arizona was tolling but necessary and we were back for a reason.

None of our extended family knew we were headed back east until the Tuesday night phone call between Trapper, his cousin, and uncle. Well, turns out, there’s a little cousin get-to-gether happening in Williamsburg, KY and we’re only an hour and a half away AND it’s at the end of our reservation here!

Williamsburg, KY here we come (in a few days)!
