… And We’ve been Where? PT 1

On the Interstate it seems… since we left the Cabela’s in Dundee, MI.

You just couldn’t argue with this spot for overnighting! Period! Then we left out on September 14, 2019 and decided to take the PA Turnpike vs. other roads. We felt it was safer and an easier ride.

The turnpikes have what they call “Oasis” or “Travel Plaza’s”… which are nice and after a lot of miles on the Turnpike we decided it was time to stop. We were both tired and so we did just that. Not bad for a “Rest Area”.

It is called Brady’s Leap Service Plaza and although we didn’t need any services such as water, dump, or electric (we’re self sustainable) it was still a great deal…. $20/night for all the above!

Back to the PA Turnpike for a minute… we came on the Turnpike as a Class 4 (they have scales when you get on) But when we exited the following day we were a Class 5!!!!!??? On one end or the other – the scales were NOT right! Come on PA! We had a $96 Toll charge upon exiting that I’m now disputing. We didn’t take on fuel… we burned fuel…. we didn’t take on any weight at all! What the heck!? How did we jump classes?

I’m sure they’ll win the argument…. so beware… NOT to mention it was the WORST Turnpike in history! It literally shook one of the cabinets apart at the seam!!! No joke! Literally shook it apart!

Sept 15, 2019 we arrived at Spring Gulch (475 Lynch Road, New Holland, PA) – It was a “free” park for us through our Thousand Trails/Collection package. (Normal price $66/night) You’d go broke pretty quick paying $66/night. Our Thousand Trails set-up (membership) is paying for itself quickly!

Site 1551 is the best for a large rig. We’re 40′ and it was easy to get backed into because of the road directly in front. Pretty much straight back-in!

Sept 18, 2019 we took a day trip to Gettysburg, PA (about an hour drive). Trapper had been wanting to go so we did. I suppose history was my least favorite topic in school but once you see it for yourself, it becomes super interesting!

The town of Gettysburg, PA

There are several ways to see/tour the battlefield; bus, drive your car, or a guide will drive your car for you.

Here’s a link to the park with prices and features Gettysburg National Park

We choose to download the APP recommended by one of the rangers and drive ourselves through. It was an audible tour and no WiFi was needed. $9.99 through the APP store.

Barn that was used as a hospital for the injured soilderrs

The park was impressive and worth the few hours we spent there.
