Long ago while we were still in our sticks and bricks home – we decided (after much research) we’d domicile (change our state of residency) in TX and use Escapees mail forwarding service ( more on all this domicile stuff later)…. we needed to get to TX to get Drivers Lic., establish residency, get new titles for vehicles, get health insurance… and all of this was suppose to happen in a week – or so we thought.
We left Biloxi, and I could tell I was getting really really sick! It was super cold and windy on the Bay where we were in Biloxi and after a couple of weeks it was time to put on our big pants and move on.
So we did.
We pulled into Escapees’s Rainbow Park and registered on January 8, 2019. She asked me how long we’d be staying (with full hook up’s – electric, sewer, and water!) and I said a week! After two weeks of being blown around in Biloxi, MS I was ready for comfort. I was sick, miserable, and needed comforting!
On January 13, 2019 I woke up with no wrinkles around my eyes! Really? Me, no wrinkles….. Yea… my sinuses were so swollen I had no wrinkles! I remember looking in the mirror and thinking, “Oh Lord, I’ve earned those wrinkles – were did they go?”
My face was actually quite plump that morning and I felt horrible. I told Trapper I was off to Urgent Care. And I left in the truck.
I Google Mapped the closest Urgent Care place (as I was uninsured by this time and a bazillion miles from my regular doctor!) and walked right in with only 1 person ahead of me! Hooray! 30 minutes total and a….. prednisone shot in the hip/butt area, a prescription for Amoxicillin, and total of $120 later (including the prescription price)- I was on the way to recovery!
The Prednisone shot was awesome! My body started semi-feeling better within a few hours – but all good things must come to end, right? So I’m only 7 miles from the campground and about half way back the truck does this strange jerk movement. I drive on for about 1/2 of a mile and stop at a Dollar General. I had planned this stop anyway so I go into the store.
I come back out and see this… and yep – it was a pink color! Crap! Transmission Fluid????? This was so not good!!!!!
Oh man…. I can’t believe this… Are you kiddin’ me? Did I somehow blow the transmission in the truck?
What the heck? How much is a new Allison Tranny going to cost?
What the heck? What the heck? What the heck?
I remember thinking – Just inhale through your nose (which was impossible due to the sinus infection) and exhale through your mouth… breathe, breathe, breathe and then calm down and call Trapper.
I called Trapper and told him what had happened. He started telling me what to do, etc. and finally – to my happiness – he says, “OK, never mind, give me 40 minutes and I’ll just walk there.” And 40 minutes later he comes walking up.
On our way to Charleston, SC when we first left our house…. we were talking about a roadside assistance program for RV’ers and decided to go ahead and sign up -just in case. We choose Good Sam Road Side Assistance. It is a yearly membership – and it paid off!
Trapper figured out the issue with the truck and fixed it but with all the safety modules on our truck it got stuck in “limp mode” – basically, it wouldn’t go in gear for more than 10 feet of movement. Pain in the butt! But those protections are there for a good reason.
I called the number on our Good Sam Roadside card and explained we needed a tow and all the other particulars. The lady said, “Well, today is Sunday so we’ll tow you back to the campground and then Monday we’ll come get you and tow you to the dealership.”
And that’s exactly what they did.
The people of Livingston, TX are AWESOME!!!!! If you ever find yourself in this town and need help all you have to do is ask!We were suppose to be leaving here on the very next day …. And although we had lots of legal stuff to do here in TX all of a sudden our “business” changed to me getting healthy again and getting our truck fixed!
To be continued in the next post…..
