California! BLM Camping

Trapper and I were talking this morning and we decided we were more nervous about going into CA than we were Mexico. Isn’t that strange…

We even made a special stop at the last exit, out of AZ, when we realized we had half a lemon in the trash! That’s right half a lemon needed to be trashed quickly! Maybe we were being over cautious?

It’s just a little unsettling with all the warning signs. The speed limit is 65mph unless you are towing something and then it’s dropped to 55mph. The only thing missing, in comparison to entering Mexico, is a sign saying, “Last chance to turn around.”

The inspection station.

The drive was gorgeous! And that picture isn’t photoshopped or edited at all. You could literally see the road for miles!

We passed several Palm Tree farms, solar farms, and some uniquely disguised cell towers.

Cell Tower disguised as a Palm Tree!
Palm Tree Farm
Solar Farm. Thousands of solar panels on rotating arms to follow the sun all day! Interesting.

We finally made it to our boondocking location on BLM land (Bureau of Land Management). Remember BLM land, is land that was given to the people of the USA. It’s yours... free to use. Free to camp on (14 days), free to ride your Razors, ATV’s, tent camp, van camp, car camp, rv camp or just enjoy riding around in!

Great internet service (Verizon speeds of 29 download, 28 ms ping, and 15 upload). I do speed checks through OOKLA on my phone app and on the laptop before we settle in. And as you can see we have the desert to ourselves right this second. Love it!

We probably over exaggerated our entrance to CA but you never know. We didn’t want to break any CA state laws, etc. We wanted to cross uninterrupted and we did. I immediately stuck our CA sticker on the RV! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to say I stayed in a new state. And now I have.

Very easy access to this spot. Don’t listen to Google Maps…. take Hwy 62 into Joshua Tree, CA… turn on Sunfair Rd… nicely paved, then turn right on E. Broadway… nicely paved. You’ll go right through the solar farm, the pavement ends and there starts the BLM. Super easy!

Cascade Rd if approaching from the east is NOT the road you want, go on down to Sunfair (it’s paved!) Our GPS tried to take us down Cascade Rd. Soft sand on that road.

Happy Boondocking!
