But…. we only have a limited Wi-Fi signal that I think I’m picking up from a well-boosted signal from a General Store about a half-mile away. (The slowest Internet signal of any of the places we’ve been these past 9 months…) Let’s have a group laugh! Miserably slow speeds!
These past four weeks have taught me so much about myself! I’m learning to cook on an open fire, wash dishes in any manner needed, fresh produce doesn’t exist up here (that I can find) and groceries are expensive! Good thing we stocked-up for this trip!! (Yep, some of you laughed at all the groceries we brought up here…) We’re still eating cheap food! Good food but cheaper prices!
There’s only a Hardee’s and a Subway fast food joint in Munisings, MI (a 26 mile round trip for me) but good lord, you have Lake Superior to frolic in – if you can sustain the cold water!
The views, the people, the atmosphere, the almost near never darkness…. I’m so glad we came here, on a whim… we were close by, they needed help, we said OK…. and we landed here a month ago! And we get paid for this!
Pete’s Lake Campground is a very busy place with lots of locals coming here all the time. We’ve seen the revolving door. It’s different up here now though, according to the locals. Used to – you could come here with no reservation and just find a spot! Not anymore. We’ve disappointed so many people the past month which I hate. But things change. Ya know?
One of the greatest things are the nicest people…. we had some locals take us on a Pontoon boat tour of the lake…. They went out of their way to find us and yell to us, “Hey, you guys wanna go on a ride?!” Of course we did! And we enjoyed Pete’s Lake from the Lakeside view! That’s our site off in the distance. Marge knew exactly where to park the pontoon and let us off!
We’ve only made two major screw-ups…. 1) I forgot an hours worth of work on the paperwork one week – which my boss had to painfully stay for me to finish – and 2) I got confused on reservations and had someone in another persons site and the new person was already set up! Thank goodness the late arrival was cool and just went to another site.
We only get updates twice a week, we have no control over the reservation system, we have basically no internet, and we can only call out to local numbers on the landline. Yep, we have a landline. It took me more “than a minute” to remember how to use one! But, family/friends with that number **** You CAN call us!******
However; I’ve reported downed trees, twice, to the National Forest Service System. They respond quickly! We’ve gotten Bison Burgers from campers, fresh produce from actual home gardens, lots of recyclable beer and soda cans at .10 each here in MI, of course the Pontoon ride, Trapper’s gotten 4-5 cigars as tips for clean bathrooms (yep, Vault toilets!) and my boss didn’t find any mistakes on this week’s paperwork. It was a good day when she didn’t call me back in the camper to ask me about something!
It’s real life – lived a little differently- by choice!
So glad your enjoying your adventures. I enjoy reading about it.
Thank you! We are greatly enjoying and we’re gonna niss this place!
