Community Watch at it’s Best! Williamsburg, KY.

We’re pretty much in the side yard! Love it!

We arrived in Williamburg, KY. Small town USA. (KFC was born only a few miles from here in Corbin, KY (fyi). So let’s start with ….OUR ARRIVAL… on May

We did arrive a day early. We did not realize our family member who owned the land (we’d be parked) on was in the hospital. We did know her son (who owns the old homestead/ranch) knew we were coming. The person renting the old homestead place knew we were coming… but the neighbors did not. 🙂 Hmmm…. Community Watch at it’s Best!

We arrive in Williamsburg, KY and drive straight to the old home place. We stop, get out, look, figure it out, check the dirt (last thing we want to do is bog down, right?) and Trapper decides we can pull in straight – swing around – and park. Cool.

While we’re doing all this – I notice a lady up on the hill – on the phone – looking our way – and the higher neighbor walking down to see what was up!

Then I noticed an older gentlemen and a younger guy walking over. They were super nice and cordial and basically asked us who we were and what we were doing. We were cordial and explained.

I wasn’t hearing banjo’s or anything but I realized we were a very small fish that had just made a VERY big splash in a VERY SMALL Pond!

What I haven’t told you so far is that we were parking/camping on the former Chief of Police property, who a couple years ago lost his life to cancer – he was (years ago) shot in the line of duty – survived – and later in life fought cancer with all his might, but it finally overcame him, but not without a fight! Here’s a good story that sums it up….. https://www.thetimestribune.com/news/local_news/a-well-deserved-honor/article_c5abb221-31f9-5c84-a1b3-41f99558591d.html

I only had the chance to meet Russell once. And, after a while he drove out the Kubota tractor and let me drive it around the yard. Oh my gosh…. I was so grateful! I had fun and I think he did too.

So, yea, after everyone realized we were family – the neighbors chilled a bit and we all had a great time.

It was kinda cool seeing community watch in action though. 🙂 – These folks have it going on! Looking out for neighbors!

The next post is the awesome family time, getting some projects done, a huge wreck, and saying goodbye!
