As you can imagine by the title – yes, today is my birthday! 55 years ago today I came into the world! Where did all this time go? That’s 20,075 days! And maybe a couple more with leap years!
For some reason, today, I’m just having all these thoughts and wanted to share.
My 55 years on earth: have I done anything important? Have I had successes? Are my kids happy? Did I raise them right? Was I there for scrapped knees and broken hearts? Have I righted some of my wrongs? Have I inspired anyone? Made anyone laugh? (I know I’ve made some cry, sorry for that). Do I have a real Bucket List? Have I been supportive to others and encouraging? Is my spouse enjoying our life together? Is my faith strong?
Arriving at 55 for me is a milestone. You see, I was diagnosed at 22 with having Type 1 Diabetes (Juvenile Diabetes – it was called back in the day). For me to be able to sit here tonight an type this without any major issues (kidneys, eyes, heart, etc.) is a blessing!
33 years with a life changing/potentially deadly disease and so far, no apparent complications, is a MAJOR blessing! October 17, 1986 – I really didn’t think I’d see today. Honestly, I didn’t.
My doctors were skeptical that I would have healthy babies and suggested we (the doctors and me) watched them carefully until age two. I never really understood that thinking and still don’t. I guess it was 28-30 years ago and technology hadn’t caught up. (The babies are healthy! 😉 and much older now!)
The doctors were hopeful there would be a cure for Diabetes within the next 20 years but that’s not happened! It’s kinda disgusting but we won’t get off on that tangent.
To answer all those first questions: I’d have to say “Yes” to all. I am super blessed and I know it! I feel it! I sense it!
I may not always act like it but I really do know it – deep in my heart!
There’s a thousand answers to the questions above – I pose them for/to you to take a moment of pause. That’s all. I don’t have 20,000 more days to live. I need to make the most of them. Whatever that might look like.
Our campsite was visited by these guys earlier today…. those horns could do major damage to an RV so if you just make some noise they’ll meander on…
We got our truck back and enjoyed an awesome dinner. Trapper cooked dinner for us and we had a spectacular sunset!
Hello 55 and me! I have to embrace you now!
You are officially here!
Well said, Lynette, and all those questions truly give us something to think about. Enjoy 55 because you are going to blink and, just like that, you’ll be welcoming 74 (75 is just over the horizon but I’m going to use 74 until the very last minute)!
Stay well and safe.
Thanks for the update and thoughts on your birthday. “Put another candle on your Birthday cake, you’re another year old today,”
