Houston! We’ve got a Problem on board!!

I’m thinking dead mouse, Trapper’s thinking roof leak and mildew. But the smell to me is not of mildew or mold and the smell is more pungent toward the midway point of the coach (bathroom, hallway, engine compartment).

Let’s think about this for a second…. a year ago we were raising how many animals and attracted how many mice in the chicken coops, etc. – that died – and smelled? A lot! I recognize the smell of a dead mouse, rat, etc.

Houston! We’ve got a dead varmint on board, for sure! I’m sure of it but we can’t find it!

For a week we had our engine compartment open while we were parked in an open field. It rained two or three evenings (which would drive varmints to higher dryer ground)

Then two nights ago our dog goes a little crazy one evening. She was eating but then barking at something under the kitchen slide and she would NOT touch her dog food bowl for the two days after that. So, something spooked her. Neither of us saw whatever it was.

Now, today, three days later…. we are smelling “something”. We’ve opened all the cabinets – looked for water, looked for mildew, looked for mold – and nothing! No mildew, no mold, no dead animal, no nothing – just a faint smell.

I think we picked up a mouse while in the field. The smell is not overwhelming but noticeable at certain points in the coach. So maybe the varmint is in one of the underneath bays. Who knows?

Seven – almost eight months on the road we’ve not picked up anything yet. And now, the day before my folks visit for the first time I have a Houston problem!

We actually found a bat stuck in our bedroom slide in our previous 5th wheel – it was squished… to death… literally…. but it never smelled. I dread the day I find this dang mouse. I’m sure that’s what it is…. otherwise, the dog wouldn’t have acted like she did a couple nights ago. We’ll see and keep you posted.

It sounds disgusting, but it’s life – even in a house you have to deal with this occasionally.
