Not everyday is an adventure, right? Today was preparation day for entering CA – which actually turned into it’s own adventure!
We have to return to Quartzsite, (again) March 2, 2020 for the battery swap from AGM’s to Lithium’s. We’re excited for the upgrade and in the mean time we have a couple of weeks to kill. So, we thought… let’s head to California. Yep, that’s right, I never thought this RV would ever go into California, but it is!
I had to check the CA list of veggies and fruits allowed into the state. I’ll leave a link down below, but it’s 11 pages long!! Some things are allowed from all states, some from only a few select states, and some are prohibited, period. I’m getting a little nervous.

I called some friends of ours from SC that traveled this way last year. They suggested making a list of the produce on board, eat all the citrus before crossing, dump the trash, and probably expect the border agent to stick their head in your rig.
We did all of that. Verbatim.
We ate all the citrus and forbidden fruits/veggies… made a list of approved items… and got the dog current on her shots. She was about two months out so we took her to Tractor Supply’s Pet-Vet to get her updated. At home (SC), it costs $36…. AZ it was $97.
We knew we’d need to fuel up both vehicles before crossing into CA and we were almost out of propane. We might as well do this in Quartzsite because fuel will be cheaper.
We fueled the Jeep at $2.71/gallon, got propane at $2.30/gallon, and used our handy new EFS or TSD Logistics card to save on diesel for the coach. Price at the pump was $3.04/gallon we ended up paying only $2.50/gallon (more on this card later). And we were set to travel on!
We’ll gain and hour on our east coast family/friends for a few days. Sorry guys if we call at midnight you’re time. Just ignore the call or text please.
I’m very excited to see Joshua Tree National Park for a week or so and then return to Quartzsite, to finish the RV projects. Side note to this: the Solar guy who initially installed the solar on this coach is currently in Quartzsite. We could snag an appt on March 2 or have to go all the way to “somewhere” Montana in July to have it done. We choose to kill a couple more weeks in the desert.
California here we come!
