If you watch sailing, hiking, full time RVers or nomads-in-general videos they all talk about provisioning! Our new job is as Camp Host in the Upper Peninsula of MI. Our Campground Manager said, “You might want to stock up before arriving – groceries here are a bit pricey up here.”
So, we stocked up! And we restocked up! One of the locals we were camped next to at Veteran’s Memorial suggested we visit the store Woodman’s Market and it was awesome! Good quality at a very reasonable price. I’m accustomed to Lidl in the Southeast USA and this store beat their price! I was in grocery heaven!
Why did I buy so much stuff? It was a good price and I’d been forewarned from a local of the next area we were going to be in… things were pricey. It’s funny, as you travel, the difference in prices you pay for things. If you’re stationary you get used to the price you pay and budget for it. For us, we have a set budget and some places we arrive in – empty handed – and pay out the wa-zuu for groceries. We were going to be there for a few weeks so while in the land of cheaper good quality, brand name goods, why not stock up.
Here are a couple pictures of what it looks like. I don’t know when I’ll get the full bags of groceries off the couch! I have no where for all this! I’ll keep you posted on our provisions!
Our pantry/freezer/fridge was full and the bill was only $315 which $400 month is what we have budgeted for a month of food. We’ll see how long this will last. Stay tuned. I know we’ll run out of perishables but hopefully I’ll find a farmer’s market and resupply. In the meantime thank you Woodman’s Market!
Nice
14 days in and we’re only out of “fresh” stuff… lettuce, tomatoes (I may try growing some onboard) cabbage… those kinda things. Pretty sweet and Woodmen’s Grocery was awesome!
That is enough to last 3 months. Mom
The prices up here in the UP are super high…. we kinda knew this before we left The Dells, WI so yea, I stocked up! I finally have one couch empty and in the cabinets.
