We found Stanley Hill (BLM) by watching some YouTube videos and it was pretty much what we expected based on the reviews of others. The biggest disappointment is the amount of broken glass and people not taking their trash with them when they leave. Why do people have to be so nasty and lazy?
In the picture below, where you see all the paths – well, in person you’ll see campers. We camped to the right in the photo. It was really crowded to the left.
This area is just outside Tucson and for some reason the land on the San Joaquin Road side was much busier than the other side of the hill (I’ll call it the Fire Dept side – there’s a Fire Dept at the corner of Camino Verde and Old Ajo Rd).
Casino Del Sol also allows free parking. Supposedly just overnight but some folks were completely set up! And after speaking to a few, they’d been there a while.
Another cool FREE thing to do in Tucson (if the Air Force and stored jets/C-130’s etc interest you) is to drive around the outside of the Air Force base. You’ll see massive amounts of aircraft that are stored and ready for service. Acres and acres of stored aircraft.
Our two weeks on BLM land, meeting up with our SC friends, meeting our local tour guide (and close friend) Zeke, ended with me finally finding a side street vendor selling authentic Mexican food!!
For the RV’er – the closest dump station and water fill up is the Pilot Travel Center (exit 268 I-10). For $7 you can dump and fill up water, Good Sam members it cost a mere $5. You can also dump and fill at the TTT (triple T), but I don’t know the price, sorry.
For the person visiting Tucson looking for some awesome grub…. look no further than El Amigo! Their awesome, clean, and organized place is situated just between TTT Truck Stop and Pilot! Don’t pass them by! The Burrito’s are fantastic!
Our two weeks in Tucson were amazing. We got to revisit some home town friends, get reacquainted with older friends, sight-see a bit, and just relax with good food. Oh yea, we got the dog groomed too! LOL And the groomer gave me a $20 discount because Dez did so good! It’s really the little things in life that mean so much!
I hope you enjoy a few more photo’s of our time in Tucson!
Next we head towards Bermuda Flats at Roosevelt Lake in the Tonto National Forest, AZ.
