That smell? And Norris Lake Marina and Dam

I left you with the bad smell a couple days ago and it’s gone today. Reminds me of my farming days… here today – gone tomorrow. Who knows what the smell was. I still think it was a varmint (that I will find, some random day, in some random place and have some random expression when I find it!) I dread the day!!!!

Today was a moving day (aka travel day) for us. No matter how much simpler this gets – I still find it stressful, somewhat. We were only moving 45 miles north but you still have to do all the same stuff – whether moving 45 miles or 450 miles! Everything has to be secure, tied down, put away and you get the point.

We arrive at the Escapee’s Racoon Valley RV Park in Heiskell, TN. Exit 117 from I-75N and for Escapee members it’s only $17.50/night!

We get to our Campground and was blessed with a pull-through site at the same price. Whoo Hoo! Most of the time pull-through’s are more costly. So we settled in – hooked up water, electric, AND sewer and sat for a bit catching up on this and that.

We later decided to take a drive to Norris Lake Dam and check out some of the marina’s. I’ve already seen a lot of crazy ways people live, but this one took the cake! This is literally a tiny home, on a boat dock float thing, anchored in the lake! For some of you, you might think we live a little crazy – but look at this!

All of these are floating houses on floating docks!

I could see living on a houseboat. I could see living in a tiny home. I can see living in an RV. But this struck me funny. I didn’t see a dingy or jon boat tied to this house. How do they get to land? How do they supply? I would love to talk to one of these people one day. It looked like a very safe and calm anchorage – but that’s their home! Hmmmm…. There are always new horizons, for sure!

We left all those questions behind and ventured on to Norris Lake Dam. Built in 1930’s when there wasn’t much technology and just dirt, water, and brawn. It’s amazing most of our dam’s in this country were constructed in the 1930’s and 1940’s – without the modern technology we have today. Amazing!

One side of the dam was producing power with a huge concrete wall separating it from this…

High water… a marina… and a gorgeous lake!

We headed home after we remembered our “Rookie” mistake of leaving our Awning out! WHAT????? We know better!!!! And the worst part was I got a weather alert just before we left home and never thought of the awning! I hope luck is finally on our side!

  1. Some of those houses on floating docks look pretty big.
