Ok, so you guys survived my scariest road trip ever over the Apache Trail (SR88 or AZ88) so today we thought we’d do an easier drive – on pavement (I hope!)
Due to the wet winter the desert area has had, we’re lucky enough to experience the Super Bloom while we’re here. It’s a little crazy to me that views like this exists and their free for the taking.
We left Roosevelt Lake (Bermuda Flat Camping area) and headed to Show Low, AZ. The drive itself was full of views and nothing death defying! Please enjoy the pictures as we go down into the Canyon.
We see a rest area down in the canyon and decide to stop for lunch. There are picnic tables a few steps down but we decided to go on down to the river.
We walked around and sat down on a rock for lunch! How gorgeous is this??? In the picture below, I’m pointing to our seating for lunch!
Our original plan was to drive all the way to Show Low, AZ but after seeing everything we’d seen and driving 75 miles to see it… we decided to keep it epic for us and turn around and go home. I really couldn’t imagine the views getting any better. We had lunch at the Salt River Canyon Rest Stop.
Below is the map of our daily travel. We made it about half-way to Show Low.
The Southwest has done us right this year. The Super Bloom has made the canyon walls gorgeous, the desert floor alive, and it’s not killing my sinuses! That’s an added bonus.
