I left you with our main slide malfunction, looking for another spot for the night and some campground etiquette.
This is what happens in Campgrounds on occasion… FYI
The Campground Etiquette situation. The lady in the 5th Wheel told the Camp Host they were suppose to be in site 70 Sunday night. Hmmm…. The Campground manager told the Campground host… “No they’re not! Their not suppose to be here until Monday night!”
The lady in the 5th Wheel tells Trapper their only there for the night but she’d made the Camp Host believe they’d be there for a week. Now, honestly moving a 5th Wheel around is a bit more trouble than a MotorCoach…. so we tried to make it easy for everyone. But you see how many players in the same game can go so wrong quickly.
We were ready to move so no big deal to us… we simply moved on. Monday morning I roll by site 70 and they hadn’t even unhooked! They WERE really only there overnight and so WERE we! If I’d known they were only over-nighting I would have suggested they take our old spot! It was open for the night because we were suppose to be in that spot for the night but weren’t! Miscommunication all around on this situation! But, Life happens guys – even out here.
So we found a mobile RV tech out of Onalaska, WI that can see us Tuesday (July 23, 2019) and we decide to head toward him, to save us money. It’s a 100 miles west from the Wisconsin Dells, WI but it’s better than sitting in a parking lot of Camping World until September, waiting to get the slide fixed.
Of course, there’s an “in the meantime” situation that creeps up and we get a job offer to Camp Host in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Hmmm… even with the 400 mile trip – we thought to ourselves, “We can Do This!” It’s a 41 site campground, just Trapper and myself “managing” it (aka keeping it clean – we do have a boss but located 20 miles away) and so we say yes and explain we can’t be there until at least Friday (July 26 late evening) depending on the slide issue/fix.
But we still have to get this slide fixed… so we book three nights (in case there’s parts to order, etc. at Veterans Memorial Campground in West Salem, WI (just outside Onalaska). Great park with very spacious and mostly level sites! Our site was perfectly level.
So, we’re juggling work happenings and hassle at the same time for a couple days. We left Arrowhead Campground with the slide 20% open and headed 100 miles West! Yes, we were driving with a slide not completely closed! Yes, we stayed in the right hand lane! But, I was a nervous wreck.
Luckily for us, our Mobile RV Tech called and he could come out the evening we arrived at Veterans Memorial Campground in West Salem, WI! Hooray! Uncle Buck’s RV Repair if you’re in the area, he’ll come to you – we choose to go closer to him! Terrific person, did a great job, showed us some stuff we didn’t have a clue about and fixed our slide in two hours. We had sheared off the three screws holding the bottom of the slide to the (I’ll call them the drive trains, if you will) and some were in precarious places that we’d have never found.
We were fixed for now. And that slide is solid now! But, we’d paid for three nights here, so I called the Campground Manager back in the Upper Peninsula and told him we accept the job but we can’t be there until at least Friday (July 26, 2019) and it would probably be late. He said, “That’s fine. Glad you got your slide fixed and we look forward to meeting you.”
We spent the next two days provisioning for about six weeks. We were in the land of cheaper food (not as in means of growing it but as in means of purchase power!) And we stocked up!! Lots of dry goods, some fresh produce, veggies, and some meats.
Slide was fixed, we were provisioned, and we were headed to the UP of Michigan to Camp Host!
It’s no wonder our families can’t keep up with us because our plans change so frequently. This job opportunity came out of nowhere, our slide issue set us back a few days, but we committed to the Pete’s Lake Campground , Campground Manager… and we’re on our way! So, instead of heading West, we’re going North to Host a Campground.
