What damage did the slide out issue cause?

Before I take you on the trip to the Upper Peninsula (for our first Camp Hosting job)… let’s look back at our slide issue. Yea, the one slide that wouldn’t come all the way in!

By the time we arrived at Veteran’s Memorial Campground in West Salem, WI – the slide had maneuvered it’s way about 95% back into position. I’m glad it decided to move in and not OUT going down the interstate!

Once our handy Mobile RV Tech fixed the issue and we tested the slide – there was minor damage inside. Cosmetic damage only on the wall (which has the recessed cabinet in it and which is behind the shower) – literally popped back in place.

What I’m pointing to is the indention the countertop was making trying to bring the slide in. Below you can see a huge scratch too but nothing a little Old English can’t cover up!

I know you’re going to ask – what about potential water damage later from the shower wall? Our shower is behind the wall that was bumped out of place… and so far so good. The shower enclosure suffered no visible damage.

Then
Now

I guess so far we’re lucky no more damage was done. Just a good point to keep an eye on your slides. If they don’t come in right, if it seems off to you, if you hear weird noises, too many pops and creeks… just don’t force it! We got out cheap on this one. 160 miles out of our way and only $130 repair bill (to put that comment in perspective… he was the only mobile RV Tech with good reviews we could find… Camping World was 4 weeks out on repairs as were other major establishments) he could have charged $500 and we would have had to pay it.

We overnighted at the only Casino in Harris, MI. Island Resort and Casino and we went in and checked with them and although they have a campground with water and electric they do allow dry camping overnight in the “far” parking lot. We chose a semi level place (in the parking lot) and set-in for the night – leaving us only with about 60 miles the next day to our new home for a few weeks! We basically found a way out of the way spot and parked. If you needed water and electric it was only $22/nt but we didn’t so we didn’t. We were out early the next morning.

Now, let’s head North to the UP of Michigan!

I’m ready to be parked for a while.
